Install
and configure Acronis Backup
Server backup is essential to
recover your data in many situations. In some
situations it is preferable to use other techniques to
recover your data (recovering of small quantities of files
can be achieved often by the end user recovering their own
files using the previous versions tab (volume shadow copy)
on networked folders and hard drive failures can be
prevented from having an effect by using fault tolerance).
Even though a full backup is
not necessary in all situations there are still situations
in which it can be essential, fire, theft, flood, RAID array
failures, user damage and virus damage. An offsite
backup can even be useful if your primary site may be
unavailable for sometime (maybe a prolonged power outage)
and you would like to get up an running elsewhere.
We recommend Acronis Backup
and Recovery family of products for onsite and offsite
backup management. With one solution both can be
managed. Once installed it can be configured to backup
the entire system, allowing the whole server to be recovered
to different hardware* (maybe an entirely different type of
server in the event of a complete failure) or perhaps you
need to recover specific folders and with the correct
add-ons you can restore individual emails or databases.
Onsite backup is the
conventional way of backing up data. It still has a
place since it provides the quickest restore times but some
problems can arise. It is dependant on the hardware
(tapes and hard drives) that you are backing up to being
reliable and also requires that in the event of a
catastrophe (like a fire) that the tape or hard drive was
not on site at the time. This of course means that in
most instances of disasters at least the last tape would
still be in the backup drive meaning at least a day's data
is lost. It also requires that a person changes the
media daily and takes it offsite.
For all of these reasons
offsite backup solutions have been created but many are very
costly. Acronis provide an extremely reasonably priced
solution for a set cost per server up to a specific amount
of data (many providers charge per GB meaning charges can
fluctuate monthly and they often cost around £1 per GB per
month, meaning a typical server storing 200GB of data could
cost about £200 per month to backup! Acronis offer
offsite solutions starting from £356
per year
per server
(less
than £30 per month)
for
1TB
of data (approx.
1000GB).
Even though the price is
low they do not compromise the solution offering reliable,
secure backup and recovery with
Government-grade Data
Privacy & Security.
High-level data privacy
is critical to businesses, and Acronis takes privacy
to the maximum level. Government-approved AES-256
Encryption is standard issue with Acronis Backup &
Recovery 10 Online. Moreover, each customer has the
option (and is strongly encouraged) to create a
unique private key which ensures that only the user
can access their business’ information. Neither
Acronis nor anyone else will be able to access your
data.To make
offsite backup a viable option Acronis offer a
seeding facility. This means that instead of
transferring the initial full backup over the
Internet to the data centre, the first backup can be
saved to a hard drive and then sent by courier to
the data centre. Then subsequent, smaller
backups (since they only contain changes make since
the last backup) can be pushed over the Internet.
